LUCKY Michael Chipuelong, 36, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

He is accused of striking another man’s head and body multiple times with a crowbar.

The victim, who sustained a three-inch laceration on the head, told police that he was drinking with another person at an apartment in San Antonio when Chipuelong approached him with a crowbar and began hitting him on his head and body.

According to the victim, he and Chipuelong had known each other for more than 10 years, and he was surprised by the attack.

Police said the victim complained of severe pain in his left rib area and a bad headache during an interview in the emergency room of the hospital.

Chipuelong, for his part, told investigators that he was angry at a friend for using money to buy beer for the victim “instead of buying food for his kids.”

He said he wanted to teach the two men a lesson so he took out his anger on the victim. He also admitted using a crowbar to hit the victim.

A witness told police that Chipuelong walked up the stairs holding a crowbar in his right hand. The witness saw Chipuelong approach the victim, who was drinking beer. Chipuelong then swung the crowbar at the victim’s head three times causing the victim to fall to the floor, the witness said. While the victim was on the floor, Chipuelong hit the victim again in the rib area, the witness added.

The witness said he pinned Chipuelong against a metal window frame and had to hold tight to keep Chipuelong from again hitting the victim.

Another witness came out of the apartment and grabbed the crowbar from Chipuelong, who walked down the apartment stairs and left the area before the arrival of the medics and the police.

Chipuelong was later arrested on the rooftop of a building in San Antonio.

On Monday, he appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho, who imposed a $10,000 cash bail and remanded the defendant to the custody of the Department of Corrections. Chipuelong was also ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on April 17, and for an arraignment on April 22.

Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government while Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen represented Chipuelong.
