THE Democratic Party of the NMI has endorsed House Floor Leader Edwin Propst of Precinct 1, who is running for U.S. delegate, and Precinct 2 Rep. Manny Gregory T. Castro, who is seeking a Senate seat in this year’s midterm election.

The party is also endorsing the re-election bids of  Rep. Diego Vincent Fejeran Camacho in Precinct 1, Reps. Denita Kaipat Yangetmai and Vicente Castro Camacho in Precinct 3.

Castro said, “I am confident that my experience, passion, and dedication to public service make me an ideal candidate to represent Saipan in the CNMI Senate. I am running under the CNMI Democratic Party because I believe in the values of inclusivity, opportunity, and progress that the party represents.”

Castro submitted his letter of intent to the party earlier this month. During a gathering of family and friends, he announced his senatorial candidacy.

According to the party’s central executive committee, Castro has the support of the NMI Democrats, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, House Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, and many of his colleagues in the House.

Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, who won as a Democrat in 2020, confirmed on Thursday that she is seeking reelection as an independent candidate.

As for Propst, his candidacy has been endorsed by the governor and U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, who is not seeking a ninth term.

Kilili also encourages all interested individuals on Saipan, Tinian and Rota to run for office under the NMI Democratic Party and vote for NMI Democrats.

Individuals who want to run on the Democratic slate must submit their letters of intent to the party. For more information visit www.nmidems.org or go to the party’s Facebook page.
