THE Lady Blue Jays are one step closer to defending the ladies division title of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League after outplaying BDE, 7-4, in game 1 of their best-of-three championship series at the Dandan baseball field on Sunday.

BDE opened the top of the first inning with two runs courtesy of Bexx Repeki’s RBI double. Repeki was later brought home safely by Maribel Igitol for the early lead, 2-0.

BDE stayed in control for only a brief moment as the Lady Blue Jays gradually worked their way back up thanks to Angel Deleon Guerrero’s RBI single in the bottom of the first and Keolani Rios’ RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to even the score, 2-2.

The Lady Blue Jays continued to ride the momentum as Deleon Guerrero hit an RBI double while teammates Carey Demapan and Rios joined the onslaught with an RBI single each to stretch the gap, 5-2.

BDE finally got out of the offensive slump in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI by Heather Kladikm for a solo run, but the Lady Blue Jays answered back with a solo run in the bottom half followed by one more in the bottom of the sixth to remain afloat 7-3.

BDE had one last chance to stay in the game, but could only squeeze in one run before the Lady Blue Jays snagged the three consecutive outs needed to end the seventh inning and secure the first win of the series, 7-4.
