Carjacking suspects also charged in family violence, harassment cases

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Two men accused of an armed carjacking at Oka Pay-Less earlier this week also were charged in other cases.

While Timothy Serebour and John Babauta face felony charges related to allegations of an armed carjacking at Oka Pay-Less on Tuesday afternoon, which allegedly involved stealing a truck from a family of three, they were also charged in two separate cases stemming from reports made to police in the last year.

Serebour was charged with two counts of misdemeanor family violence in connection to reports made on Aug. 9, 2023, and Feb. 11, 2024.

According to court documents, in the August 2023 report, a man accused Serebour of assaulting his daughter.

The woman told her parents “she had been beaten up” by Serebour before sending photos of her injuries, which officers viewed, observing bruising to her left jaw area, a scratch mark on her shoulder and swelling in the middle of her forehead.

About six months later, Guam Police Department officers responded to a family violence complaint on Feb. 11, 2024, where the same woman in the prior incident came to her parents’ house and appeared distressed while having a cut on her finger that was bleeding.

The victim told police the day before she went to Serebour’s house and tried to enter through his windows and cut her finger. Serebour then let her through the front door but later that night she was arguing with Serebour while she dropped him off at a friend’s house.

“During that argument, the Defendant punched the victim’s face,” the complaint stated.

Babauta

Babauta was charged with harassment as a petty misdemeanor in connection to an incident on Feb. 17, 2024.

Court documents stated police officers responded on that day to an assault complaint at Guam Memorial Hospital, where they met a woman who stated she had gotten into an argument with Babauta in the parking lot of GMH.

“During that argument, the Defendant ‘pulled’ her head and pushed her head towards the trunk of her car. The Defendant then let go of her hair and threw some of the victim’s things out of the vehicle,” the complaint stated.

The woman further told officers she did not sustain injuries and that no other physical interaction had occurred, according to the complaint.
