LOCAL historian Don A. Farrell launched his 12th book, “Seabees and Superforts at War — Tinian’s Critical Role in the Ultimate Defeat of Japan” at American Memorial Park’s Visitor Center on Friday.

Farrell made a slide presentation about his 519-page book and shared some historical facts regarding the U.S. military buildup in the Northern Marianas.

Among the audience was House Floor Leader Edwin Propst, who congratulated Farrell, describing him as “our Commonwealth’s treasured historian.”

“He is truly an exceptional writer and historian and we are grateful for all his literary contributions that will be preserved and passed down to our next generations,” Propst said.

He also thanked Farrell for giving a “shout out” to his late father, Ivan, Farrell’s dear friend and former editor whose second death anniversary is one week away.

“I know my dad was here in spirit,” Propst said.

He likewise thanked the Northern Marianas Humanities Council “for another fantastic book that commemorates the history of our islands.”

Propst said “Seabees and Superforts at War”  should be read in schools and can also be a gift to family members and friends.
