HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Benster Jim Benjamin was arrested on allegations that he assaulted a woman while she carried a baby.
The incident, which took place Friday at the Toto baseball field, was reported at 9:15 a.m. by the village mayor and another individual.
“According to the witnesses, the male individual threw rocks at the female as she ran away from him and yelled for help,” the complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam stated.
The woman was carrying a baby as she fled, witnesses reported.
“She eventually sat down on a bleacher, where the male caught up to her, yanked her hair so hard that it caused her neck to whip back and slam into a chain link fence, and then placed her in a choke hold with his left arm,” the complaint stated.
The Guam Police Department reported the woman broke free and ran to the village mayor’s office.
“The male chased after her, but stopped when a passerby intervened,” the complaint stated.
When officers arrived, Benjamin, who is homeless, was identified as the male suspect and arrested, according to the complaint.
“While being placed into a holding cell, the defendant lunged at (the) officer and made multiple attempts to escape the officer’s grasp,” the complaint said.
Benjamin’s failure to comply with police resulted in the officer deploying a stun gun to gain control.
“The defendant continued resisting. However, the officer stunned the defendant a second time, after which the defendant said, ‘OK, OK, sir. I quit. I’ll comply,’” the complaint said.
Benjamin was charged with assault as a misdemeanor and resisting arrest as a misdemeanor.
Police vehicles are seen parked in front of the Guam Police Department headquarters on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, in Tiyan.
