MVA seeks entry of Hawaii Airlines

THE Marianas Visitors Authority wants to ask Hawaiian Airlines to provide a flight service to the CNMI.

“We are looking into the possibility of Hawaiian Airline coming in,” MVA Chairman David Sablan said, adding that they will request Gov. Juan N. Babauta’s assistance.

“It depends entirely on what the governor wants to do. We are going to ask for his endorsement. When he agrees, we will pursue that and look at the possibility of having Hawaiian Airlines service the CNMI,” he said.

MVA board member J.M. Guerrero said a Saipan-Narita-Hawaii may materialize.

Sablan said MVA will also get in touch with Commonwealth Ports Authority in connection with the plan.

“Let’s work with CPA. Let’s do all the necessary coordination to get this done,” Sablan said during the MVA meeting yesterday.

CPA and the Office of the Governor are also exploring the entry of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific to the CNMI.

The administration said Cebu Pacific is likely to pursue a Manila-Koror-Saipan route.

Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, will meet with Cebu Pacific officials to discuss the viability of the route in a meeting in Palau next week.

CNMI officials earlier met with Cebu Pacific officials in Manila.

Benavente said the CNMI still hopes to get Philippine Airlines back to Saipan.
