A NEW visitors council composed of individuals from the tourism industry and organizations including schools and socio-civic groups will soon be launched in the CNMI.
Called Visitor Industry Education Council, the organization aims primarily to raise the level of awareness on tourism and drum up community support for the industry.
Selection of Council officers will be made during its organizational meeting early next month, according to Raffy H. Arroyo of Glimpses Advertising.
Among its members are representatives of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, airlines, retail industry and educational institutions.
The Council will serve as a private, non-profit organization that will organize major tourism activities around the islands.
Some of its projects are the holding of annual tourism summits to discuss key issues facing the industry as well as the launching of various Pacific WAVE Club in different schools.
WAVE Clubs aim to provide awareness on the social and economic effects of the tourism industry.
