POLICE have captured escaped prisoner Steve R. Aguon.
An officer from the Department of Public Safety confirmed yesterday that Aguon was back in jail.
The officer said Aguon was captured either Friday or Saturday night.
As of press time last night, there was no available information on where and how Aguon was located.
On Friday, Public Safety Commissioner Edward Camacho told reporters that the Tactical Response Enforcement Team were still searching for the prisoner.
Camacho said investigation was ongoing on how the prisoner managed to get away from his escort, a corrections officer, in Kannat Tabla.
Aguon escaped from custody on Wednesday afternoon while attending a funeral wake for his grandfather.
Last December, the Superior Court ordered Aguon to spend five years in jail without the possibility of parole for the killing of a garment worker.
Aguon pleaded guilty to the lesser included offense of voluntary manslaughter.
The incident happened on Feb. 3, 2001. Welly Tosie of Rifu garment factory was killed by Aguon who struck him repeatedly with a baseball bat along a road in Kannat Tabla.
Missing fishermen
In other news, Camacho also told reporters on Friday that two fishermen on board a 12-footer boat were reported missing.
Camacho said the fishermen were supposed to return on Friday early morning. The families lost contact with the fishermen on Thursday night.
As of press time yesterday afternoon, it was not clear whether the fishermen had been located.
Variety contacted the Emergency Management Office, but a staff said he had no information about the incident.
No one answered the phone at the DPS Boating Safety Unit yesterday afternoon.
