SUVA (Pacnews) — Three private sector representatives from Fiji, Samoa and the Marshall Islands are to brief a regional workshop in Vanuatu next week on the value of building a stronger public-private sector partnership, the Forum Secretariat reports.
The briefings will also cover how public-private sector consultations are being undertaken in their countries, the difficulties faced and the benefits gained from that process.
The president of the Fiji Employers Federation, David Aidney, is scheduled to join Jessica Reimers, a businesswoman and representative of the Majuro Chamber of Commerce from the Marshall Islands, and Arthur Penn, a certified public accountant and representative of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce.
Their briefing is part of a one-day workshop that will report its outcomes to a meeting of Forum Economic Ministers in Port Vila next week.
It is the latest in a series of activities where Forum governments are being encouraged to consult more widely with the private sector and civil society on key economic and development issues in the region.
The keynote address for the workshop will be delivered by John Aruhuri, general manager of the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who will give a private sector perspective on the creation of partnerships between the public and private sectors.
