LIEUTENANT Gov. Diego T. Benavente on Tuesday urged education officials to join the administration in pushing for education reforms.
Benavente said the administration inadvertently failed to invite Board of Education Chairman Herman T. Guerrero to the presentation of the Educational Excellence Initiative because “we were all very excited.”
Still, he said, “one of the very first thing that the governor did was to call the chairman of BOE for a meeting to coordinate some of the initiatives that the administration has been planning.”
Benavente said he agrees with Guerrero that BOE and the Public School System should have been involved in the presentation of the initiatives.
But he said the administration and BOE should now focus “on how to improve our education system.”
He added, “If, according to the chairman, we made a mistake we will resolve it.”
Benavente is confident that “there would be a way to get the understanding of the chairman and members of BOE.”
He said “one of the things that we need to do is move forward with the education initiative and hope to get the chairman’s support as it goes through the legislative process.”
Guerrero earlier said BOE was not even furnished a copy of the initiative.
