TEN teen-agers will vie for this year’s Mr. and Miss Philippines-CNMI title.
The competition was launched last Saturday night by the Visayas Mindanao Association of the CNMI.
Five female and five male candidates, who are from 14 to 18 years old, were introduced to the media at the residence of Nel Atalig, the current president of Visminda.
The winners will be announced during the Philippine Independence Day celebrations on June 12 at Saipan Diamond Hotel.
The candidates are Sheryl Cruz and Marvin Cruz; Angelee Maniacol and Renier Bognot; Jerusalem Malabanan and Rabbi Romero; Racquel Mendoza and Nigel Cacdac; and Marizel Hiponia and Jeffrey Chinen.
“The competition is aimed at harnessing the skills and talents of our teen-agers of Filipino descent,” Atalig told the Variety. “This competition will also help some of our underprivileged brothers and sisters in the Philippines,” she added.
Philippine Labor Representative Araceli A. Maraya, who is chairman of Visminda’s board of advisers, said poverty stricken communities in the Philippines will benefit from the proceeds of the contest.
