PORT MORESBY (Papua New Guinea Post-Courier/PINA) — Vehicles in Papua New Guinea’s Chimbu province are being run using kerosene as fuel, raising worries about damage to the vehicles.
Chimbu was the first Highlands province to face the brunt of the fuel crisis following flooding which washed away a bridge along the Highlands Highway.
Just two days after the bridge was down, diesel fuel in Kundiawa’s three service stations had vanished, used up by desperate motorists.
Diesel-engine vehicle owners, attempting to keep their vehicles moving, turned to kerosene.
Ela Motors Mt. Hagen said mechanically all vehicles operating on kerosene fuel would face severe mechanical faults.
