THIRTY-NINE labor cases were filed with the Department of Labor and Immigration during the first quarter of this year, it was learned.
As of last month, about 23 percent or nine out of the 39 cases had been settled. Five were referred to the Enforcement Section for investigation and 14 mediations were held.
“Six complainants were granted transfer relief to seek new employers and two complainants requested to be repatriated to their point of hire,” Hearing Officer Vicente C. Seman said in his March report submitted to acting Labor and Immigration Secretary Joaquin A. Tenorio.
Seman said the settlements amounted to $8,709.20.
Among those who were granted monetary awards were Avelina G. Apresto, a former employee of Hakubotan Saipan, Lorna S. Baro of Sunflower International, Nazario T. Dela Cruz of Micronesia Systems, Inc., and Alma L. Limpios of Club 8-20.
The first recorded labor case for the year—Lea Literal vs. A.S.C., Inc., doing business as Nagoya Star Night Club & Karaoke Lounge—was dismissed because the complaint was withdrawn last Feb. 21, the report showed.
Majority of those who settled their labor cases with their employers requested for a transfer relief. Others asked to be repatriated.
