Keiper resigns from BOE

FRANKLIN Keiper, the staunch and outspoken advocate of teachers welfare, has resigned as teacher representative to the Board of Education.

Keiper will also resign as Marianas High School teacher in June. His reason: To be a full-time grandfather in Arizona.

“I think I have done my part as a teacher and it is time for me to spend my time with my family. I have five children and eight grandchildren,” Keiper told Variety. “I’m also a great-grandpa to my 8-month-old great-grandson.” Keiper said he submitted his resignation to Gov. Juan N. Babauta last week.

“I am retiring for good this June and spend some good quality time with my family,” said Keiper, who was a retired teacher when he arrived in the CNMI. His wife has been working on Guam for the past eight years, he said.

BOE Chairman Herman T. Guerrero, in a separate interview, said the board will address the concerns raised by Keiper.

He said ACT President Sapuro Rayphand will inform the governor about the vacancy.
