Islanders, D-9er’s win last scheduled games

(SSA) – The Islanders and D-9er’s each won their last scheduled game of the regular season with victories over the Sunrisers and Mauleg last Monday in the Saipan Softball Association Men’s Fastpitch League.

In the first game of the evening, Reno Celis and Bill Quitanco each ripped an inside the park home run and Lt. Governor Diego Benavente hit a two-run triple to lead the Islanders over the Sunrisers, 12-8. Lt. Governor’s two-run triple highlighted the Islanders six runs first inning rally to take the lead for good, 6-0. The Sunrisers managed to outscore the Islanders 5-2 to cut the lead to 8-5, but the Islanders scored the next four runs of the game and held on for the win.

In the second game of the evening, the D-9er’s spoiled Team Maulegs chance for the pennant with a sixth inning, 16-6, ten-run rule shut-out leaving the latter to root for a Sunriser victory against the NMC Proafor another shot at the pennant. Should the Proa win, they will automatically clinch the pennant title. Should they lose, a tie-breaker will then take place this coming Friday. Ray Seman went 4 for 4 with two doubles and B.J. Sablan and Pepi Tenorio each hit a home run and Tony Camacho drove in three runs to lead the D-9er’s offensive attack. John Sablan held Mauleg scoreless in the first three innings before allowing three runs each in the fourth and fifth, but damaged has been done as the D-9er’s went on to pick up two runs each in the first three innings, and four in the fourth for a, 10-6, lead. Jonathan Tenorio’s single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the winning run for the shut-out.
