Governor: ‘Go out and jog’

GOVERNOR Juan N. Babauta is challenging all department heads and government employees to exercise and trim excess fat.

The governor issued the challenge on Friday afternoon as he jogged along Beach Road, starting from the Quartermaster road intersection.

“This is a challenge to all, especially to department heads, from the attorney general to the public safety commissioner and his staff, to exercise and jog at least 2 miles a day or three times a week,” Babauta told Variety.

He added, “Frankly speaking, a lot of people in the government need exercise.”

Clad in yellow and white sportswear, the governor said his goal is to “lead by example,” and try to get the whole community interested in healthy activities like jogging.

Babauta said he was on a track team back in high school in Vermont, and in college in New Mexico.

Rep. Andrew Salas, R-Saipan, jogged with the governor.

Salas also challenged his colleagues at the Legislature to jog and exercise.

“I challenge all congressmen and senators to come out and jog,” said Salas.

Acting Coastal Resources Management Director Joaquin Salas was the first one to accept the governor’s challenge.

“That’s why I’m here,” he said.
