Leather craftswoman visits Saipan

HERMÉS Paris has brought to Saipan a master leather craftswoman who will showcase the expertise and unique craftsmanship practiced in France for over 160 years now.

Françoise Grayal of Paris is currently on island for a seven-day demonstration on the creation of high-end leather handbags. The show runs from May 1 to 7 at the Hermés Paris shop at DFS Galleria in Garapan, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grayal, through translator Kazuko Tojo, said it takes 17 hours to complete one hand-made Kelly Bag, which is named after the late Princess Grace of Monaco.

In a visit yesterday at the Hermés Paris shop, Grayal showed a handbag she had made.

Grayal has been a leather craftswoman with the company for the past 12 years.

Wolf Mojica, DFS Galleria’s group sales manager for boutiques and fashion, said Grayal’s visit is part of an annual promotion.

The same promotion is being held on Guam, he said.
