Task force will assist poor families

SUVA (Pacnews) — Fiji has setup a task force to tackle poverty in the country by focusing on families.

Minister for Women Asenaca Caucau, who heads the task force, says their terms of reference is in its draft stages and will be completed soon. It’s expected to identify ways of developing individuals and families to having a better life.

She said they would set up programs to assist poor families, which will be followed up by government. One of the areas the task force will be looking at resolving is the frequent suspension of students for non-payment of school fees.

The Cabinet decided to set up the task Force following a research paper submitted by the minister on poverty in the country. She says people should not expect cash donations but initiatives that would help them earn a decent living.
