Palau gov’t to venture in film making

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — The Palau government is set to venture in film making in an effort to further market the country to the international community.

Through the creation of the National Media Development Committee, President Tommy Remengesau believes that Palau can be more attractive to tourists.

“It is a great opportunity for Palau to participate in film making and the movie industry,” he said in an interview.

The president signed Executive Order establishing the committee last May 23.

Remengesau said the successful filming of “Survivor Japan” here triggered the move to form a national committee.

“I think we can do more to make Palau attractive for filmmakers. This is quality tourism promotion that can move Palau further,” the president said.

The committee is tasked to review media opportunities available to Palau and look into the regional film commissions developed in other countries.
