PAPE’ETE (Pacnews) — Re-elected French President Jacques Chirac received overwhelming support from French Pacific territories, scoring better than most constituencies in France.
According to the daily newspaper Tahiti Presse, Chirac registered some 87.7 percent of the total votes in French Polynesia, compared to the 82 percent of total votes he received in France.
Far right candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen, although receiving significantly less number of votes, registered an increase in the second round of voting—from 4 to 12.2 percent.
