THE Marianas March Against Cancer, a fundraising event that promotes cancer awareness and education, will return to the CNMI after a five-year hiatus.
According to a media release, this year’s MMAC will be held on May 3 at the Airport Field in As Lito.
“We are immensely proud to relaunch the Marianas March Against Cancer, a testament to our collective commitment to combating cancer in our community,” said Bo Palacios, president of the Commonwealth Cancer Association board. “Together, we can raise vital funds, spread awareness, and provide support to those affected by this disease,” he added.
The 2024 MMAC begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m., a temporary change from its usual 12-hour format. Organizers said the 2025 MMAC will return to the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. format.
Registration is ongoing and interested community members and groups should email [email protected]/.
There are six tiers of entry for participating teams. Pulan for families and Napu for schools, both cost $300; Atdao for non-profits, $399; Tano for non-profit organizations partnering with a school, educational institution or government agency, $500; Puti’on for corporations, $550; and Tasi for corporations partnering with a family, non-profit organization or school, $750.
The MMAC steering committee said a $100 early bird registration discount is available for new registrants. Early bird pricing ends on March 15, and the final registration deadline is March 27.
Funds raised will go toward the Commonwealth Cancer Association’s mission to advocate for a cancer-free CNMI through early detection, public education, cancer prevention awareness and screening, and “to provide hope and support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families through community partnerships and programs.”
