HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man convicted of felony assault was accused of having methamphetamine while driving a car without a valid license.
On Tuesday evening, a Guam Police Department officer pulled over a silver GMC Canyon pickup truck that was missing its front license plate. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Daniel Savares, who could not provide a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam.
As the police officer shined his flashlight into the car, he noticed in the back seat “a long glass pipe with a bulbous end containing a brown burnt residue that he suspected of being methamphetamine,” the complaint stated.
When Savares was asked if there was anything illegal in the car, such as drugs, Savares allegedly replied, “It’s in my black fanny pack.” The bag was found under the front right passenger seat of the vehicle. Inside the fanny pack, the officer found a clear medium-size bag containing methamphetamine, according to the complaint.
Around ten minutes after Savares was pulled over, he was arrested.
According to Post files, in 2020 Savares was an employee with the Dededo Mayor’s Office when he was accused of shooting another man with a BB gun. However, he was acquitted of the charges.
The Office of the Attorney General criminal history background report states Savares was convicted of assault in a 2022 felony case.
Court documents state in March 2022, Savares shot another man at least 13 times with a BB gun in the Dededo Skate Park area.
