Suspect allegedly stabs man unprovoked

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Two Mangilao residents awoke to the sound of someone calling for help. They found their neighbor kneeling in his home, bloodied, and the accused standing over him.

According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, the Guam Police Department got the call about 12:55 a.m. Thursday, and when they arrived, they met the two witnesses.

“They found the victim kneeling in his apartment with blood on his arm and shirt. He was holding a pipe. An individual they know as ‘Boom’ also was holding a pipe and standing over the victim,” the complaint said.

While standing over the victim, Boom, who was later identified as Frank Joseph Reyes, allegedly said, “I told you so. I told you so.”

According to the report, one of the witnesses “pushed Boom away and grabbed his pipe, … then called the police. Boom ran away.”

The accuser told police he did not know what prompted the incident.

Police said, “(The victim) woke up to the sound of his bedroom door opening and saw Boom, who walked over to and repeatedly stabbed the victim. The victim tried fighting off Boom during the attack and called for help, whereupon his neighbors showed up and Boom ran away. The victim did not know why Boom attacked him.”

The victim sustained three puncture wounds with two-inch lacerations, according to the magistrate’s complaint.

“Medics treated the victim. … The puncture wounds were on his left forearm, left pectoral and left back area. He was subsequently transported to Guam Memorial Hospital,” the complaint said.

During the search for Reyes, officers met with a relative of the defendant who, according to police, “suspected that he had been using drugs because he seemed ‘off’ recently.”

The encounter led to police locating Reyes, who told officers he knew why they were detaining him.

He reportedly “blurted, ‘I know, sir. Because of the fight.’”

While the two witnesses did not see Reyes with a knife, Reyes told officers he had one in his possession, the complaint said.

“The knife has a 7-1/2-inch silver blade and a 5-inch black handle. The defendant was then escorted to Central Precinct Command, where he told police that he did not use the knife on the victim, even though the police did not mention anything about the defendant using a knife,” the complaint said.

Reyes was charged with aggravated assault as a second-degree felony and as a third-degree felony, both with the special allegation of possession or use of a deadly weapon.

He is also facing another charge of aggravated assault as a third-degree felony.

He was detained at the Department of Corrections on $15,000 cash bail.
