THE body of Jesus Pinaula Rios, who was reported missing, has been found, the Department of Public Safety said.

“[There is] no evidence, so far, to suggest foul play,” added Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, DPS acting public information officer.

Rios, 67, resided in Finasisu, and was last seen by a family member on Monday, Feb. 5, around noon before he went outside his home on Feddos Lane to smoke a cigarette.

His body was found at a compound across from Happy Market on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m.

Manacop said, “A witness who resides in the compound was mowing grass when he smelled the odor of what he initially thought was that of a decomposing dead animal. The witness decided to check on the two goats that belong to the family when he discovered a dead person in a state of decomposition. DPS was then notified of the discovery.”

Further investigation confirmed the identity of the deceased, Manacop added.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ search and rescue unit, Department of Corrections officers and Saipan Mayor’s Office staffers assisted DPS in the search for Rios.

Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho told Variety that the search was a community issue, which is why he deployed some of his team members to help look for Rios.

Police said the case remains under investigation.

“DPS sends its thoughts and prayers to the family of Mr. Jesus P. Rios,” DPS added.
