Local DNC delegate candidates back Biden

THE individuals who want to represent the Democratic Party of the NMI as delegates to the Democratic National Convention have pledged their support for President Joseph R. Biden Jr., who is seeking reelection in November.

They are party executive director Nola Kileleman Hix, treasurer Shawna Evangelista Indalecio, party member Joan Flores Reyes, NMI Labor Secretary Leila Fleming Staffler, Angelo Villagomez and deputy executive director Stephen C. Woodruff.

Their delegate candidacy forms will appear on the ballot during the local party’s presidential primary from March 5 to 12.

Staffler said, “Emerging from the pandemic shadows, I am excited to finally get a chance to cast my vote in person at the Democratic National Convention this August. In this ever-evolving political climate, everyone must participate to ensure our collective voice is heard.”

The NMI Democrats will host a presidential primary from March 5 to 12 on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

The primary, according to the party, will be the first step in the CNMI’s participation in a nationwide process. Local Democrats will elect their presidential nominee, and delegates to the DNC, which will take place on Aug. 19-22, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois.

The national convention will nominate the party’s candidates for president and vice president of the U.S.

Democrats and registered NMI voters who would like to participate in next month’s local primary are encouraged to get out and vote. Democrats, registered voters, and individuals who will be eligible to vote on or before Nov. 5, 2024 will be able to visit designated polling sites and cast their vote for their Democratic presidential candidate of choice and for their preferred delegates.

Information regarding polling sites will be made available soon.
