Department of Public Works building safety inspector Ike Santos updates the casino commission on Tuesday regarding the removal of IPI’s tower cranes.
THE Department of Public Works is satisfied with Ocean Bee LLC’s job in dismantling the tower cranes from the unfinished Imperial Pacific International casino-hotel in Garapan, DPW building safety inspector Ike Santos said.
Santos, who monitored the removal of the tower cranes, said DPW issued a certificate of completion of the job on Dec. 26, 2023 to Ocean Bee.
During the Commonwealth Casino Commission meeting on Tuesday, Santos, speaking on behalf of acting DPW building safety officer Yvonne B. Tenorio, said the tower cranes “are no longer there.”
He said DPW issued a demolition permit on Nov. 17, 2023, following a notice of actual and immediate danger, specifically for tower crane No. 5.
Santos said Ocean Bee was required to demolish IPI tower cranes Nos. 1, 5 and 6 by Dec. 31, 2023, but the contractor finished the job before the deadline, he added.
“I was the one who monitored the work on a daily basis,” he told the casino commissioners.
“Finally, I am glad to say that the issue with the IPI tower cranes is now behind us and that DPW’s Building Safety Code Division is pleased — we are satisfied with what the contractor did and I hope that everyone will be safe now,” Santos said.
Commissioner Ramon M. Dela Cruz thanked Santos and DPW for “finally getting it done.”
“We are very happy that finally, you have taken those things down. Thank you to DPW for taking the lead in making sure that these things are done without any injury among the workers,” Dela Cruz added.
