(NMA) — The Northern Marianas Athletics is excited to announce open tryouts for individuals interested in representing the Northern Mariana Islands in the sport of athletics at the upcoming Oceania Athletics Championships in Suva, Fiji on June 4-8, and the Micronesian Games on June 15-24, 2024 in the Marshall Islands.

Qualifying event trials

Monthly trials start in March and will be held through May 2024.

Location: Oleai Sports Complex

Events: Sprints & hurdles / middle &  long distance / throws / jumps

Age groups: Senior Open / Under 18 (Oceania Championships) / Senior Open (Micronesian Games)

NMA welcomes athletes of all levels and backgrounds to participate in the trials. Whether you’re an experienced competitor or new to athletics, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the Northern Mariana Islands’ athletic contingent.

NMA is currently conducting national team practices at the Oleai Sports complex every Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m., and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. The training is open to all interested individuals aspiring to try out for the games.

The NMI has customarily performed well at the Micronesian Games, and NMA hopes to field a team this year that can continue to compete at a high level.

Interested athletes must meet the qualifying standards set forth by NMA and the Micronesian Games eligibility requirements. They must also submit all relevant documents after meeting the qualifying standards.

Qualifying standards for each event will be posted on the NMA Facebook page.

Meeting the qualifying standards does not guarantee selection.
