HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — It’s been said that there’s nothing better than a good haircut to boost confidence and self-esteem. That is what inspired the students and instructors of the Guam Community College Cosmetology Department to start the Taking Hair and Combing Together for Relief feel-good community effort after the devastation of Typhoon Mawar, Sen Dwayne T.D. San Nicolas’ office said in a press release. The idea was simple, to offer free haircuts to any residents of Guam who needed a break from the physical and emotional hardship that came with post-typhoon cleanup and recovery.
The project started June 20, 2023, and, by July 25, 2023, the group had provided a total of 315 free haircuts. All told, the total cash value of the haircuts amounted to $11,025.
For their efforts of good will, San Nicolas hosted the group on Wednesday and presented the GCC team with a legislative resolution recognizing the team members for their selfless efforts.
Hats off to these industrious GCC instructors and students who banded together to provide comfort and support to the people of Guam during such trying times, San Nicolas said in the release.
