HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Department of Corrections received two SUVs to be used to assist in public safety missions.
On Sunday, the Office of the Governor announced in a press release the recent acquisition of two 2023 Toyota 4Runner SUVs, which will be used by the DOC’s Parole Services Division.
Both were purchased as part of the U.S. Department of Justice Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program and were given to DOC last month. The vehicles cost $101,842.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero stated in the release the vehicles will be used by the Parole Services Division to check on parolees.
“The Parole Services Division is dedicated to ensuring public safety through effective parole supervision, home visits and victim meetings. During the COVID-19 pandemic, PSD was still required to monitor parolees at their homes and places of employment – during curfew checks and elsewhere,” Leon Guerrero stated.
“The addition of these new vehicles reflects our administration’s commitment to providing parole officers with the tools and resources necessary for the successful execution of their duties, especially in light of their aging fleet,” Leon Guerrero added.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio stated in the release that Adelup looks forward to providing more resources with this same funding source, such as much-needed sanitation supplies and fire retardant mattresses for DOC, plus a Toyota 4Runner for the Department of Parks and Recreation.
