NAP to implement modification of benefits based on reduced federal allocation

(Office of the Governor) — The CNMI Nutrition Assistance Program has announced that it will implement a 20% reduction in monthly benefit levels for Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands for the period beginning Jan. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2024. The adjustment in benefit levels during this period corresponds to the reduced federal funding level for FY 2024.

The CNMI NAP also announced that funds will be available to implement a permanent summer EBT program that will begin Summer 2024.  The program is for children receiving free or reduced-price meals in schools over the summer while they are not in school.

Because of the additional burden that the reduced benefits places on families, the CNMI NAP staff is making its team available to work with families/individuals to maximize their benefits with meal planning budget classes/counseling.

The NAP Program, together with the Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor, is also working to ensure benefits continue for families despite the reduced federal funding. Efforts are also underway to explore how benefits can be increased.
