HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Department of Education is seeking nominations for the 2025 Teacher of the Year award, the department announced in a press release.
Each year, members of the community have the opportunity to nominate public school teachers who they believe have left a positive impact on students.
“The GTOY program is a districtwide initiative that celebrates outstanding teachers who demonstrate excellence in their practice, advocate for the teaching profession and contribute to the improvement of education for all students. The program aims to support and honor these teachers, amplify their voices in policy and practice discussions and empower them to become leaders in their field,” GDOE said in the release.
Nominees for GTOY should have five years of experience or more in GDOE and have demonstrated their ability to collaborate with other educators, students and families to build a school culture of respect and success.
In addition, GDOE said GTOY nominees should also demonstrate leadership and innovation inside and outside the classroom, be able to express themselves in an engaging and articulate way and have good standing in GDOE and the community.
“A candidate for the GTOY is an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled classroom teacher in any state-approved or accredited school, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, who plans to continue in an active teaching status. GTOY candidate has the respect and admiration of their colleagues,” GDOE said in the release.
