Marianas English camps: Learning meets Pacific island living

(MVA) – The Marianas is hosting English camps this winter that are far from ordinary, introducing participants and their families to the warm island lifestyle of the Western Pacific archipelago.

Located only a few hours from major Asian gateway cities, the U.S. commonwealth will host two camps in the coming months that combine U.S. curriculum classes with the opportunity for enriching experiences in the local community, a vibrant mix of indigenous Chamorros and Carolinians and ethnicities from around the world. “Wow English Camp” has been operating English immersion programs in Saipan for students from South Korea for over 25 years, and “MBC Union Camp” is an organization with extensive experience running global English camps in more than 10 countries worldwide. Supported by the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA), both programs will be conducted in partnership with U.S.-accredited local schools, offering students an authentic experience of U.S.-style education combined with local cultural activities.

“Located a short four and a half hours from Korea, the Marianas is a premier destination for English language immersion and leisure in a safe, family-friendly environment,” said MVA Managing Director Jamika R. Taijeron. “We thank our local school partners for making this extraordinary opportunity available to our visiting students and their families. In addition to having the opportunity to learn from first language English speakers, students and their families will be able to engage with the warm people of our community, to enjoy the beautiful lagoon and fresh air of our islands, and we hope to make wonderful memories in the Marianas that will last them a lifetime.”

The Wow English Camp features a parent-accompanied “PIC Schooling Family Camp,” available as a 2- to 4-week program between December and February. Open to students from grades 1 through 8, participants attend classes at one of several well-established private schools in Saipan, including Seventh-day Adventist School, Eucon International School, Mount Carmel School, and Grace Christian Academy.

Students experience U.S.-style education focused on discussion and presentation, while accommodations are provided at PIC Saipan. After classes, children can enjoy a variety of resort activities through the PIC Kids Club and interact naturally with native English-speaking clubmates. Parents can also join resort programs and training sessions. During the camp, families have access to facilities at the luxury resort Kensington Hotel Saipan and Coral Ocean Resort, including shared use of pools and restaurants. Weekend family excursions are also included, offering opportunities to learn more about the Marianas culture, history, and subtropical environment.

“MBC Union Camp” will take place from Jan. 10-30 for students in grades 4 through 8. Classes are held at Northern Marianas International School and Green Meadow School. The program includes two weekday field trips and full-day weekend tours. In addition, students can review lessons and strengthen their conversational English skills through after-school supplementary sessions led by first language English-speaking teachers.

Both camps feature hands-on experiences such as a tour of the Northern Marianas Museum of History & Culture, visits to government offices including the Governor’s Office and Guma’ Hustisia/Imwaal Aweewe/House of Justice courthouse, tours of World War II heritage sites, snorkeling in the Managaha Island Marine Conservation Area, and jungle exploration. Dedicated staff members oversee students’ safety, health, and daily routines, sharing updates with parents online for added peace of mind.

As the programs include participation in regular U.S. school classes, early registration is recommended. Detailed information is available on the official websites of Wow English Camp and MBC Union Camp.
