Xin Wen Jin
MOUNT Carmel School is thrilled to announce that 12th-grader Xin Wen Jin is a QuestBridge scholar matched to Boston College. According to their website, QuestBridge “is a national nonprofit that connects high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds with leading institutions of higher education and further life opportunities. By recruiting, developing, and motivating these students. . .QuestBridge aims to help talented students attend the nation’s best colleges and to support them to achieve success in their respective careers and communities.”
Out of 20,800 applicants, 2,242 students were selected as Finalists and ultimately QuestBridge scholars — the highest number of recipients in a single cycle to date. Xin is among a few other student scholars also selected from the Northern Mariana Islands. As scholars, these students will be awarded a full four-year scholarship worth approximately $200,000.
Upon hearing the news, Xin remarked, “I did not imagine I would be selected as a finalist. Nonetheless, I am thankful to all my teachers, friends, and family who supported me throughout these many months to get to this point. I am especially thankful to our school counselor for guiding me every step of the way.”
Instrumental to the application process, MCS counselor Tobed Smith said, “It is always fulfilling to see the grit and passion of our students recognized and awarded in such a way. Every year, our seniors always demonstrate a willingness to exceed everyone’s expectations. It is why I continue coming to work every day — the success of our students.”
MCS Principal Filmah Buenaflor said “Xin’s monumental achievement is a testament to his dedication to living the school’s mission of a holistic education rooted in faith and excellence. We are tremendously proud of Xin and cannot wait to see what other feats he achieves after graduation.”
