THE Tinian manamko’ center has power again after receiving $5,000 from the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Office on Aging on Saipan.
Tinian’s Office on Aging resident director, Anne Marie San Nicolas, said they reopened on Wednesday last week, a day after she had to shut down the center because the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. disconnected the power supply on Dec. 5. San Nicolas was told that the center’s pre-paid power account had already been exhausted.
San Nicolas said the purchase order for their prepaid electric power was processed on Oct. 28, and the check should have been released at least a week after.
She said once she received the check on Dec. 6, she went to CUC on Tinian and bought a three-month load of power.
On the same day, she added, the Tinian manamko’ center got its power back at around 12:30 p.m.
“We are very happy to come back to the center,” she said, adding that she is again cooking food for the island’s 75 senior citizens, including those who are homebound or bed-ridden.
They are also preparing for a lunch time Christmas party on Dec. 22., she added.
