HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — U.S. Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Carmen G. Cantor spent a week in the Pacific meeting with officials in the region and seeing how federal funds are being spent.
Her trip brought her to Guam, where she met with Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio and visited sites that are receiving funding from the U.S. DOI Office of Insular Affairs.
“These visits included a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Guam (GCA) Trades Academy, where she highlighted the positive impact of solar panels on reducing operational costs and discussed the suitability of renewable energy technology for Guam’s environment. Other OIA-funded visits encompassed the governor’s complex building renovation and the Micronesian Resource Center One-Stop Shop, aiding individuals and families migrating to Guam from the freely associated states,” the U.S. DOI said in a press release issued Saturday.
Cantor also took time to check in on efforts to combat invasive species, particularly the little red fire ant, by visiting a site funded by the America the Beautiful Challenge initiative.
She also had time to participate as a special guest in Operation Christmas Drop, delivering essential supplies and Christmas gifts to remote insular areas in Micronesia.
According to the release, Cantor’s trip to the Pacific highlights DOI’s commitment to the insular areas and the freely associated states.
Her Pacific trip also included stops in Hawaii and the Northern Mariana Islands.
