Pirates rout Reds, 18-2

THE Pirates thrashed the Reds in just four innings, 18-2, in the 2023 SBL Masters League on Tuesday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The Pirates drew first blood  in the opening inning mainly because the Reds’ defensive errors that allowed two runners to reach home safely.

In the top of the second inning, the Pirates went on scoring spree and added 11 more runs.

While the Reds struggled to find the strike zone, the bases quickly filled, allowing for a full rotation of the Pirates’ lineup led by Jesse Tenorio with two RBIs.

 When the Reds finally stopped the bleeding with three consecutive outs, they were down 0-13.

But the Reds continued to put up a fight with Joe Kapileo finally breaking their silence with an RBI single that brought in Hector Efrain, 1-13.

The Pirates then picked up where they left off in the top of the fourth with five runs. Pete Tomokane and Mario Aguon had an RBI each while three other runs were scored off errors to maintain a double-digit advantage, 18-1.

The Reds had one last chance to cut the lead, but they could score one run only and had to accept defeat via the mercy rule, 2-18, with four completed innings.

Other games

The Dodgers also joined the winner’s circle by defeating the Marlins, 13-7. Richard Quitugua carried his team to victory, going two for two at bat with one double and one triple, and four RBIs.

On Thursday, the Spartans faced the Blue Jays, but the game was postponed due to rain in the top of the fourth inning.
