Fiji lowers fuel prices

SUVA (Pacnews) — Airports Fiji Ltd. announced Monday it will lower fuel prices in a move to encourage more aircraft to refuel at Nadi International Airport.

The price drop from 1.67 cents in a dollar a liter to 0.5 cents will make AFL one of the cheapest aircraft fuel providers in the region.

Apia airport in Samoa currently offers 0.53 cents of a dollar a liter while Wellington Airport pays below 0.5 cents.

AFL Chief Executive Jone Koroitamana said they hoped to see a positive impact on aircraft movements as a result, and the fuel price would be reviewed if the current objectives were not met.

Nadi airport, which is owned and operated by AFL, recently opened a new F$7 million air traffic management center housing some of the latest air traffic communication and surveillance equipment.

The main terminal complex is also undergoing a major facelift in preparation for next year’s South Pacific Games hosted by Fiji.

“Although we are comparatively small in world terms, we are providing services of international standards to ensure the very best in safety and comfort,” Koroitamana said.
