Solomons form new education institution

HONIARA (Pacnews) — A new educational and research organization called the Institute of Solomon Islands Studies is being set up in Solomon Islands.

The chairman of the institute’s board of governors, Lawrence Foanaota, said one of the aims of the new institution is to provide research into areas of interest and concern in Solomon Islands.

Foanaota said the institute would publish writings and research papers by both Solomon Islanders and non-Solomon Islanders.

He said they wanted to encourage Solomon Islanders to conduct research in their own society and culture, in particular areas such as languages, arts, land tenure, environment issues and creative activity including the arts, creative writing, dance, song and music.

Foanaota said the institute would also provide consultancy in any field of concern in Solomon Islands when requested by the government or non-government organization.
