matters must be brought to the attention of the Speaker of the state legislature, Mr. Harrington Olebuu. Moreover, Chiokai said that he, as governor, practices courtesy and will not overstep the bounds of authority to dictate what the Speaker should and should not do.
“We have differing duties,” Chiokai said, “and as a matter of respect and courteous obligation, I can only dictate matters of my office, which I will willingly provide to anyone who needs them.”
Horizon contacted Olebuu regarding Skiwo’s concern. According to Olebuu, Skiwo’s concerns were addressed.
Olebuu said he had instructed his staff to prepare a report for Skiwo. However, Skiwo failed to specify exactly what he needed and what he needed the report for.
“The records are available,” Olebuu said, “ but though they are public record, we cannot simply give them out without knowing what they will be used for and how they will be used.”
Olebuu said that some information can be twisted and used to hurt others. Further, legislative matters are sometimes very delicate, he said, and must be guarded so as not to cause public confusion.
As far as voting is concerned, Olebuu said each and every voter of Kayangel State will make a personal choice when he or she casts a vote.
“That choice,” Olebuu said, “does not rely solely on reports, but on character and experience.”
“Status report or not, Kayangel voters will cast their votes and will elect candidates of their choosing to fill the offices,” Olebuu said.
