village’s growing number of residents can enjoy in the future.
Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider, R-Saipan, introduced House Bill 16-100 which seeks to designate the area as the Kagman Arboretum & Community Park.
An arboretum is a place for the study and enjoyment of the unique natural beauty of a limestone forest.
Hofschneider said the proposed location for the park is located at the intersection of Kagman Road and the crossroad to Santa Soledad Mission and the entrance to Kagman I, II and III.
“This tract of land is a watershed area that is heavily forested with large mango trees and hardwood trees,” he said.
He said Kagman is a fast growing community, and in a decade’s time its residential population is projected to increase to 20,000.
“The creation of a public park is in the public interest as the Kagman homestead communities are rapidly growing and are projected, based on 4,000 homesteads and an average family size of 5 persons per family, to have a residential population of 20,000 within the next decade,” he said.
If the bill becomes law, the Division of Parks and Grounds will maintain the Kagman Arboretum & Community Park.
