Manglona: Rota power plant needs rehabilitation

if power plant engine problems  are not addressed.

Sen. Paul A. Manglona said Rota’s power plants “have been neglected.”

The plants need replacement parts so that they can function at their full capacity, he added.

One engine, the senator said, needs electrical components to be put back online.

According to Manglona, R-Rota, the power plant personnel there have been requesting for some parts and materials from the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. on Saipan, but the request has been “ignored for the longest time.”

“We need to put one engine on line. We need to overhaul one of the two main generators that have a capacity of 2.5 megawatts, but right now is good maybe for only 1.4 megawatts,” he stated.

Manglona said Rota’s power plant workforce is also working on one 1.5-megawatt generator which  needs some parts and materials.

“Our concern is if we have one generator down now, we might also have load shedding,” he said.

The Rota power plant has four engines. One engine from Tinian is being put online by Rota power plant workers.

One of the two engines that are online is now showing signs of deterioration, Manglona said.
