3 awards for grab in RGA Cup

winners in the annual golf championship in December will also be competing for two more trophies—the Sid K. Peter and Tony M. Taitano awards.

Members are now keeping themselves busy preparing for the RGA’s Ace of the Month on May 10 at the west course of LaoLao Bay Golf Resort.

They will have to beat former Department of Public Works Secretary Jose S. Demapan who scored a net of 65 in the RGA’s monthly qualifying tournament that was held in conjunction with the 6th Annual Northern Marianas College Foundation Open at the Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort last April 26.

Demapan fired 78 gross minus the handicap of 13 beating the other nine RGA members. He fired 37 in the front and 41 in the back.

RGA has many members, tournament coordinator Jess I. Wabol said, but it is most likely that 16 to 20 members will show up this month as what has been the case almost every qualifying tournament.

RGA Cup which has been around more than 10 years awards trophy, one-year free RGA membership and $300 cash to the championship winner.

This year, there will be a Sid K. Peter Special Award that will go to a member with the most rounds in all RGA sanctioned tournaments.

A Tony M. Taitaino Special Award will go to a member with lowest average net based on 10 rounds.

Trophy, one-year free membership and cash prize also awaits the winner of Peter and Taitano special awards.

Andy Nepaial is title holder of RGA Cup which was held in December last year.

To become the May Ace of the month, a member needs to beat Demapan’s qualifying score. Tying the score does not give a member the title.

Those who already won the monthly Ace title for the previous months can only win the cash prize but the title still goes to the one beats the qualifying score, otherwise the score holder will be the May Ace of the month.

The check in time on May 10 will be 11:30 a.m., and the tee time will be 12:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Wabol said it is fortunate that there are golf resorts that accommodate their group even if the number of participants exceeds that on the list.

The RGA will be issuing T-Shirts and caps.
