Dela Cruz in an interview yesterday said Bank of Guam is forming a team to join the 12 teams from government agencies that had been playing in the league for seven years.
The league which started out as a way to maintain healthy lifestyle and instill spirit of sportsmanship among government employees is going through uphill this year as six of pioneering teams would not make it this time, most of which say due to economic constraints.
The teams that will not participate this year are the Public School System, Division of Environmental Quality, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Public Works, the Team Army and Luta.
Those who have confirmed to compete again are Office of the Public Auditor, Northern Marianas College, Department of Cultural and Community Affairs, Commonwealth Ports Authority, Department of Corrections, Department of Public Safety, Mayor’s Office, Legislature, Tinian and Aguaguat.
OPA is the depending champion in the league.
The Team Army however will not make it because the team members will have deployment by summer.
Dela Cruz disclosed in an interview two weeks ago that two teams from the business sector will join the basketball league which supposed to start two weeks back but was postponed because the organizers wanted to give another week to those who can not meet the $500 entrance fee.
The difficulty in reaching the target number of teams has prompted the organizers to include the businesses, thus, expanding the theme of the league.
