3 arrested for theft of gov’t property

Dominic Chiptwelong, Masaioshi Daikichi Sallem and James Ocha appeared before U.S. District Court for NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson on Thursday and Friday.

Chiptwelong and Sallem were arrested on Thursday while Ocha was arrested on Friday.

Munson said he finds Sallem, who was represented by attorney Steven Pixley, a flight risk and a danger to the community.

The judge set no bail without prejudice and remanded Sallem to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.

The federal court has yet to appoint counsels for Chiptwelong and Ocha who were also remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.

The three defendants were indicted for conspiracy to sell government property, theft and destruction of government property.

According to the indictment, the defendants stole and damaged properties at American Memorial Park.
