‘All of a sudden, my car hit another car’

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was accused of being drunk while driving a car and getting into a crash that sent another man to the hospital.

On Sunday at about 2:20 a.m., officers with the Guam Police Department responded to a collision involving a Nissan Rogue and a Nissan Sentra driven by Jonathan Radoc Gagui, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam on Monday.

The driver of the Rogue, a man, appeared to have fresh injuries and “blood streaming down his face,” before he was taken to the Guam Regional Medical City for treatment, the complaint stated.

Gagui, 31, who had two other occupants in his car, smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes, appeared to have difficulty standing up and had slurred speech when speaking with officers.

Gagui allegedly told officers he drank three Bud Light beers at a bar in Yigo, and he was on his way to King’s restaurant.

“The defendant further stated that he ‘was just going straight and all of a sudden, my car hit another car,’” according to the complaint.

Officers were unable to conduct a sobriety test because Gagui had difficulty standing on his own. A Breathalyzer test, however, resulted in Gagui having a score of 0.157% blood-alcohol concentration, which is almost twice the legal limit.

Gagui was charged with vehicular negligence with bodily injuries and vehicular negligence with bodily injuries (BAC) as third-degree felonies. Additionally, he was charged with driving while impaired and driving while impaired (BAC) as misdemeanors.
