Man, 18, accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on three occasions since she was in fourth grade.

On Wednesday, Khylle Patrick Varela was charged in the Superior Court of Guam with four counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct as first-degree felonies.

Varela, who turned 18 in February, was charged after a Child Protective Services social worker made a complaint to the Guam Police Department after she learned an 11-year-old girl had told her school counselor she had been sexually assaulted by Varela.

The girl, who is currently in sixth grade, was interviewed by police, and she alleged that Varela sexually assaulted her three times, with the most recent incident occurring the morning of Thanksgiving, about two weeks ago.

According to the complaint, the first incident occurred the summer after the girl’s fourth grade year, when she was lying in her bedroom. Varela stood beside her bed then allegedly placed his hand under the girl’s shirt, in her pants and sexually assaulted her and raped her.

The second incident occurred around the girl’s 10th birthday when she was asleep and woke to find Varela sexually assaulting her and raping her, documents state.

The third incident happened Thanksgiving morning, when the girl was sleeping and was awakened by Varela feeling the child’s breasts as he lay next to her. Varela then allegedly turned the girl to her side and raped her, according to the complaint.

When interviewed by officers, Varela initially denied touching the child.

“The defendant then told police, ‘It only happened once before,’ referring to the incident on Thanksgiving. Varela added that he has ‘developed intimate feelings for the victim,’” according to the complaint.
