THE Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations will be holding a public hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, to discuss the nomination of Kina B. Peter as the new CNMI public auditor.
A representative from the Office of the Governor, a representative from the Office of the Attorney General, Secretary of Finance David Atalig, and Saipan Mayor David Apatang have been requested to be present for the public hearing to provide comment.
All private citizens are welcome to be present for the hearing as well and to give testimony.
If confirmed, Peter would be the first female to serve as CNMI public auditor, a six-year term.
She serves as acting public auditor until she is confirmed by both the House and the Senate.
Outgoing public auditor Michael Pai was appointed during the Fitial administration, as well as the Inos administration.
No person may serve as public auditor for more than two consecutive terms.
Peter is a certified public accountant and has over two decades of accounting experience with Deloitte, a Big Four audit firm in the CNMI and Seattle, Washington, serving as a senior auditor.
In this capacity, she led and supervised audit engagement teams, helped to develop audit staff skills required for successful completion of audit assignments, managed various audit engagements for various public and private companies in the Seattle area, and successfully executed audit engagements for government agencies, trust funds, non-profit organizations, and private companies across Micronesia.
She most recently worked for the Boeing Company — a multi-billion-dollar Fortune 500 company and one of the largest aerospace manufacturers in the world — as a senior finance leader, senior accountant, senior manager, and accounting manager.
At Boeing, she led in the building of viable financial business plans, initiated financial accounting and reporting processes, led the Hong Kong Regional Finance center international team across multiple Asia-Pacific locations, managed over 20 Boeing subsidiaries, and led multiple teams in Washington, Hong Kong, and San Diego.
Peter graduated from the University of Portland in Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting and is a Washington licensed CPA.
