Search on for new education commissioner

 

On Friday, the Public School System’s human resource office received documents from the first applicant,  who resides in the CNMI.

The position has a four-year contract and pays an annual salary of $60,000 to $80,000.

An applicant must have a master’s degree in some field of education from an accredited college or university plus five years experience in teaching or education administration.

He or she must demonstrate knowledge about school systems and must possess excellent communication skills in English; must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S. and the CNMI.

The last day for submitting applications is on July 18. The board will announce its selection on  Aug. 1, in time for the school opening in September.

PSS is also hiring for 16 other positions: special education teacher, audiologist, speech language pathologist, physical therapist, deaf and hard of hearing teacher, visually impaired special education teacher, education psychologist, itinerant reading/ESL specialist, classroom teachers, and special education coordinator.

These positions have been announced already, but PSS has yet to receive qualified applications.

Other positions remain vacant — teacher aide for the Troops-to-Teacher program, program manager, school aide, computer specialist and administrative specialist.
