Police: Heart attack caused death of Japanese tourist

This was based on the follow-up investigation conducted by the Department of Public Safety.

“Investigation reports showed that 37-year-old Toshitsugi Tanoue, who was a victim of a near-drowning incident, died from heart attack,” DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro told the Variety.

Preliminary investigation showed that two other tourists who were swimming at the beach near the Pacific Islands Club noticed the victim floating in the water on his beach float with his face down.

The witnesses said the victim showed no signs of movement and that white foam came out from his mouth and nose.

The two witnesses immediately sought the assistance of a lifeguard, who administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim.

Responding police authorities and medics transported Tanoue to the intensive care unit of the Commonwealth Health Center, where he was placed on life support, but he died at 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Police authorities earlier classified the case as a near-drowning incident while further investigation was still being conducted.
